Better EPC = better mortgage rates
Energy-efficient homes qualify for lower rates from a growing number of lenders. Debbie will check if your property qualifies and find you the best green deal available.
Lower rates for energy-efficient homes
A green mortgage offers a lower interest rate or cashback on properties with a high EPC rating typically A or B. Lenders including Barclays, NatWest, Halifax and Nationwide all offer green products.
If your property is C or below, some lenders offer green improvement loans to fund energy upgrades which could push your rating up and unlock a better rate.
Check your EPC rating| Rating | Score | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| A | 92-100 | Highly efficient - best green rates |
| B | 81-91 | Very good - qualifies for most green products |
| C | 69-80 | Good - average new build |
| D | 55-68 | Average UK property |
| E | 39-54 | Below average |
| F | 21-38 | Poor efficiency |
| G | 1-20 | Very poor - may affect lending options |
How to push your EPC score up
Insulation
Loft, wall and floor insulation are high-impact improvements. Loft insulation is often the cheapest and most effective starting point.
Heating system
A heat pump or modern condensing boiler significantly improves your rating. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers grants of up to £7,500.
Solar panels
Adding solar PV can push a property from D or C into B territory and generates electricity that reduces your bills.
Windows and doors
Replacing single glazing with double or triple glazing improves your score and reduces heat loss significantly.
