When a secured loan is worth a look

A secured loan isn't right for every situation, so it's worth checking whether it fits yours.

🏠

You don't want to touch your mortgage

If you're part way through a fixed rate and remortgaging early would mean an early repayment charge, a secured loan sits alongside your existing mortgage rather than replacing it.

💷

You need to borrow more than your lender will offer

Sometimes a further advance or remortgage with your existing lender won't stretch far enough for what you need, whether that's home improvements, a deposit for another property, or something else.

📋

You want a specialist view

Secured loans are a specific, regulated product in their own right. The Loan Partnership deals with them every day and can talk you through whether one suits your circumstances.

Plain English, no jargon

Debbie's view

I can't personally arrange a secured loan for you. It's not something advisers like me are permitted to recommend directly, it sits outside what I'm authorised to advise on. What I can do is introduce you to The Loan Partnership, a specialist provider, so you get proper, dedicated advice rather than a general pointer in the right direction.

✓You send a few basic details below.
✓With your permission, we pass those details to The Loan Partnership.
✓They'll assess your situation and give you their own advice directly, they're responsible for whatever they tell you, not DS Financial.
✓There's no obligation to go ahead at any point.

A simple example

Say you're three years into a five year fixed rate and want £20,000 for an extension. Remortgaging early could mean a hefty early repayment charge on your existing deal. A secured loan sits alongside your current mortgage, so you can raise the extra money without disturbing it, though you'd then have two loans secured against your home instead of one, and the loan would typically carry a higher interest rate than your first charge mortgage.

Why people consider a secured loan

🔒

Keeps your mortgage untouched

Your existing mortgage rate and terms stay exactly as they are.

⏱️

Can be quicker to arrange

In some cases a secured loan can be set up faster than a full remortgage.

🚫

Avoids early repayment charges

Often considered specifically because remortgaging early would trigger a charge on your current deal.

🎯

A specialist handles your case

The Loan Partnership deals with secured loans day in, day out, rather than as one product among many.

📈

An option when your lender says no

Can be worth exploring when your main mortgage lender won't offer you a further advance.

↩️

No obligation to proceed

Asking for a quote and an introduction doesn't commit you to anything.

Worth knowing before you apply

•A secured loan is a second charge against your home, on top of your mortgage, so you'd have two debts secured on the same property.
•Interest rates on secured loans are usually higher than first charge mortgage rates.
•If you fall behind on payments, your home could still be repossessed, the same as with a mortgage.
•DS Financial doesn't give advice on secured loans. The Loan Partnership will assess and advise you, and they're responsible for that advice, not DS Financial.
•If you go ahead, DS Financial may receive a referral fee from The Loan Partnership for introducing you. This doesn't add anything to the cost of your loan.
•A secured loan isn't right for everyone. It's worth thinking about whether a further advance, remortgaging, or unsecured borrowing could suit you better, and The Loan Partnership can talk you through the options.

Common questions

Does DS Financial arrange secured loans directly?

No. Second charge secured loans aren't something DS Financial is able to advise on or arrange directly. With your permission, we introduce you to The Loan Partnership, a specialist provider, who will deal with your enquiry from there.

Who will actually be advising me?

The Loan Partnership. They're responsible for any advice, recommendation or information they give you about a secured loan, not DS Financial. We simply make the introduction.

Do I have to pay for the referral?

No, there's no cost to you for being introduced. DS Financial may receive a referral fee from The Loan Partnership if you go ahead with them. This doesn't add anything to the cost of your loan.

Will my details be shared without my permission?

No. We'll only pass your details to The Loan Partnership once you've given us permission to do so, which you confirm when you send the form on this page.

What's the difference between a secured loan and remortgaging?

A secured loan sits alongside your existing mortgage as a separate loan secured against your home, so your current mortgage and its rate stay untouched. Remortgaging normally replaces your whole mortgage with a new one, which can mean losing a good existing rate or paying an early repayment charge.

Is my home at risk with a secured loan?

Yes. A secured loan is secured against your home in the same way a mortgage is, so if you don't keep up repayments, your home could be repossessed. This applies on top of your existing mortgage, so you'd have two debts secured on the same property.

Want us to make the introduction?

Send my details
